Cardinals Drop Series to Pitt
March 29, 2026 | Baseball
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville baseball team lost 13-7 in Sunday's series finale with Pitt at Jim Patterson Stadium.
With the loss, Louisville (17-11, 4-5 ACC) dropped the weekend series after losing the opener on Friday.
It was all Pitt (19-7, 5-4) early on Sunday. The Panthers got a single and homer to start the game and led 2-0 just two batters into the contest.
Pitt added two more runs in the second, another in the third and three more in the fourth and led 8-0 at the midway point.
The Cardinals finally got on the board in their half of the fifth, getting a three-run homer from George Baker, his first long ball of the year.
Bayram Hot then led off the sixth with a home run of his own to make it an 8-4 game.
The Panthers slowed Louisville's momentum in the seventh though. With the bases loaded and one out, the Cardinals got a strikeout for out number two. However, a two-run single pushed the Panthers into double figures and the lead back to six.
Louisville grabbed a pair of runs back in its half of the seventh. The Cards took four straight walks to open the inning, the last of which forced home Alex Alicea. Tague Davis then rifled a ball through the right side to plate Lucas Moore and bring the tying run to the plate with still nobody out.
However, a fielder's choice, pop out and line out kept the Cardinals from getting any more runs across.
Pitt immediately answered back with a two-run homer in the eighth to stretch the margin back out.
Davis would later hit his 16th home run of the season in the ninth inning.
Brandon Shannon (1-2) took the loss in his first collegiate start. The freshman allowed four runs over 1.2 innings.
Davis, Griffin Crain and Ben Slanker tallied two hits apiece for the Cards.
Louisville will be on the road for the next five games, beginning with Tuesday against Eastern Kentucky. The game will be played at Legends Field in Lexington with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. ET.
