Cardinals Drop Opener to Pitt
March 27, 2026 | Baseball
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville baseball team took a 4-3 loss in the Friday series opener against Pitt at Jim Patterson Stadium.
Louisville (16-10, 3-4 ACC) got an outstanding start from Wyatt Danilowicz on Friday night.
The southpaw worked seven shutout innings with just two hits allowed for the second consecutive weekend. Danilowicz struck out seven but ended up with a no-decision.
The Cardinals got single runs in the second and fourth innings. Bayram Hot doubled in the second and scored on a Kade Elam groundout. Two innings later, Ben Slanker drew a leadoff walk and Elam added his second RBI with a sacrifice fly.
Louisville threatened to add more through the middle innings, but left multiple runners on in the fourth, fifth and sixth.
Pitt (18-6, 4-3) took advantage once Danilowicz left the game, immediately pushing three runs across to take a 3-2 lead.
The Cards had an answer though. Elam led off the frame with a single and moved up to third with two down. Kyle Campbell then delivered the game-tying hit, legging out a high chopper over the second base bag to even up the score.
However, the Panthers responded with a run in the ninth that proved to be the difference.
Aaron England (1-1) ended up with loss on Friday, giving up the run in the ninth.
Hot had the only multi-hit game of the night for the Cardinals, while Elam had a hand in all three runs that scored.
Louisville and Pitt hit the diamond again on Saturday with first pitch scheduled for 2 p.m. ET.
