March 21, 2026 | Softball
COLUMBUS, Ohio - The University of Louisville softball team (24-7) swept the second day of the Ohio State Tournament with a 12-1 win over Indiana State in five innings and a 6-5 defeat of host Ohio State on Saturday afternoon.Â
Anna Wise (7-3) picked up the win during the first game of the day after tossing three full innings without allowing a hit. Louisville grabbed three runs right out of the gate after Easton Lotus scored on an error, and Camryn Lookadoo and Madison Pickens scored on an RBI double by Monroe.
The Cards tripled their lead in the second, plating six runs on five hits. Lotus got the inning started with a double that brought in Jordan Williams and Chelsea Mack before Lotus came home to score on a passed ball. Lookadoo used a single to score Bri Despines, and a fielder's choice by Taylor Monroe plated Pickens. Riley Janda drove in the sixth run of the inning in Lookadoo, following a bases loaded walk to give UofL a 9-0 lead.
Wise continued to be dominant, and Louisville added more runs on the board in the top of the fifth. Lookadoo used a bases-clearing triple to score Lotus, Despines and Pickens and get the Cards into double-digits. Ryann Sanders entered to pitch the home half of the inning and allowed just one hit and one run to finish out the 12-1 UofL win.Â
Louisville again struck in the top of the first against Ohio State as Pickens used a sacrifice fly to score Mack and give the Cards an early 1-0 lead.
The top of the fourth saw Pickens and Lookadoo get aboard with no outs to lead off the inning. Monroe launched a home run to right-center field to extend Louisville's lead to 4-0. OSU struck back with just one run in the bottom of the inning, but Brooke Gray left the bases loaded to prevent further damage.
Another Buckeye run crossed in the bottom of the sixth, but UofL tacked on its fifth and sixth runs on an error in the top of the seventh.
Ohio State launched a three-run homer in the home frame, but Alyssa Zabala thwarted the comeback with two big swinging strikeouts to seal the 6-5 Louisville win. Zabala finished with her third save of the season as Gray struck out a season-high six batters, grabbing the win to improve to 6-1 in the circle.
The Cards will be back in action on Sunday, March 22 to finish out the Ohio State Tournament with a second game against Campbell at 10 a.m. ET.Â
