
Cards Fall to FIU in Final Game of Felsberg Invitational

MIAMI, Fla. -Â The University of Louisville softball team fell to FIU, 8-5, on the final day of the Felsberg Invitational on Sunday afternoon at Baptist Health Stadium.
Louisville leaves the Sunshine State with a 3-2 record. Brooke Gray moves to 2-1 after taking the loss in the circle against the Panthers. Madison Pickens and Katie Thatcher each drove in two runs for the Cards, and Chelsea Mack and Camryn Lookadoo led the offense with two hits apiece.Â
FIU struck first in the bottom of the second, scoring two unearned runs early. Louisville answered in the top of the third after Pickens singled in Taylor Monroe and Mack to tie the game at 2-all.Â
Lookadoo singled to lead off the fourth and eventually came around to score on a double from Thatcher. A sacrifice fly from Monroe scored Thatcher as Louisville led 4-2.
A string of walks allowed the Panthers to tack on four runs in the home half of the fourth inning, and FIU added two more runs to lead 8-4 in the bottom of the fifth inning.
A double from Lookadoo put a runner on early for the Cards, and Lookadoo moved to third on a single from Jordan Williams. Thatcher again scored Lookadoo, this time with a sacrifice fly, to cut the Panthers' lead to three at 8-5.Â
Alyssa Zabala pitched a scoreless sixth frame, but UofL was held at bay in the top of the seventh.
Louisville will head back out on the road next weekend to compete in the Carolina Classic in Columbia, S.C. The Cards will face Boston University, South Carolina and Kennesaw State from Feb. 13 to Feb. 15.
