
Louisville Continues Road Swing with Weekend Trip to South Carolina

COLUMBIA, S.C. – The University of Louisville softball team continues its road swing with another weekend tournament, traveling to the Carolina Classic hosted by No. 16/20 South Carolina. The tournament takes place from February 13-15 at the Carolina Softball Stadium.
The Cardinals will face three teams this weekend with contests against No. 16/20 South Carolina, Boston, and Kennesaw State, playing five games across three days.
Louisville Head Coach Holly Aprile is familiar with the South Carolina, serving as the team's assistant coach from 1995-2004. She helped lead the Gamecocks to five SEC Championships and five NCAA Regional appearances, reaching the Women's College World Series in 1997.
Louisville recently tallied a 3-2 record in the Felsberg Invitational hosted by FIU last weekend. The Cards defeated Stony Brook, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, and Lehigh by a 15-run differential but fell to FIU twice by a five-run differential across the two games.
At the Felsberg Invitational, four of Louisville's sophomores stole the show. The trio of Madison Pickens, Riley Janda and Jordan Williams finished the weekend with a combined 16 hits, 19 RBIs, 10 runs, three home runs and three triples.
Pickens posted a career day on Feb. 6, knocking two triples against Stony Brook and a home run against FIU. On Feb. 7, she matched her career high with three runs scored versus Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, and she logged two RBIs against FIU on Feb. 8. Janda and Williams each logged five RBIs against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, the first time since 2017 and second time in program history that the Cardinals have had two players with five RBIs in the same game.
Transfer pitcher Anna Wise pitched 9.0 innings across two games, including a 5.2 inning relief outing in the first game against FIU. Wise finished the weekend with just eight hits and three earned runs allowed in addition to three strikeouts and a 1.000 fielding percentage.
TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE
Louisville opens tournament play Friday, Feb. 13, against Boston at 11 a.m. ET, followed by a matchup with host South Carolina at 1:30 p.m. ET. The Cardinals return to action Saturday with games against Kennesaw State (10 a.m. ET) and Boston (12:30 p.m. ET), before closing the weekend Sunday against Kennesaw State at 9:30 a.m. ET.
All games will feature live stats via StatBroadcast. Friday's contest against South Carolina will be streaming on SECN+.

South Carolina Gamecocks
- Series Record: South Carolina leads 2-0
- Last Meeting: February 8, 2018 - South Carolina won 5-3 in D9 Citrus Classic in Orlando, Fla.
- Scouting the Gamecocks: No. 16-ranked South Carolina tabbed a 44-17 record last season, going 13-11 in SEC play. The Gamecocks earned the No. 8 national seed in the NCAA Tournament and won the Columbia Regional. USC's season ended following two losses to UCLA in the NCAA Super Regional.
Boston University Terriers
- Series Record: Louisville leads 2-1
- Last Meeting: May 17, 2014 - BU won 8-3 to eliminate Louisville from the 2014 NCAA Tournament Tucson Regional.
- Scouting the Terriers: Boston finished last season 39-19, going 14-4 in Patriot League play. The Terriers won the Patriot League tournament and participated in the Norman Regional, where they were eliminated following losses to Oklahoma and Omaha. BU was named at the top of the Patriot League preseason poll and was ranked No. 14 in D1Softball's Top-25 Mid-Major Poll.
Kennesaw State Owls
- Series Record: First Meeting
- Scouting the Owls: Kennesaw State finished their first year of Conference USA softball in 2025 with a record of 12-41, with a 3-24 record in conference play.

Following the Carolina Classic, Louisville will host cross-town foe Bellarmine in the first home contest of the season on Tuesday, Feb. 17 at 6:30 p.m. The Cards will then hit the road again to play in the Hampton Inn Gulf Coast Classic, hosted by FGCU from Feb. 20-22.
