February 28, 2026 | Softball
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville softball team (13-4, 1-1 ACC) came up just short in a 10-8 loss to No. 13 Stanford (11-5, 1-1 ACC) Saturday afternoon at Ulmer Stadium as the series evened at one game apiece.
Stanford struck first with a two-run home run in the opening inning and carried a 3-0 lead into the bottom half. Louisville answered immediately when Chelsea Mack crossed the plate on an error, and the Cardinals trimmed the deficit to 3-2 after Camryn Lookadoo scored in the second.
Louisville's offense erupted in the third. With the bases loaded, Bri Despines drew a walk to bring Easton Lotus home and tie the game. Despines finished with four walks, tying a school record. Taylor Monroe followed with an RBI single to give the Cardinals the lead, and after another walk extended the inning, Jordan Williams delivered a two-RBI single to cap a five-run frame and put Louisville ahead 7-3.
Stanford responded in the fourth, regaining the lead at 9-7, and added an insurance run in the sixth.
In the circle, Alyssa Zabala kept Louisville within striking distance, allowing just two hits and no earned runs over the final 2.2 innings. The Cardinals made one last push in the seventh when a wild pitch allowed Madison Pickens to score, but the rally fell short.
Alyssa Houston (2-2) secured the win for the Cardinal with Zoe Prystajko recording a save. Anna Wise (4-3) took the loss in the circle.
Louisville will close out the series against Stanford on Sunday, March 1 at 6 p.m. ET at Ulmer Stadium on ACC Network.
