Cards Cap PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational with Four Program Records
January 31, 2026 | Track & Field
Breanna Braham (women’s 400m), KJ Byrd (men’s pole vault & heptathlon), and Lucinda Rourke (women’s mile) all set program bests.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville track & field teams closed out the second and final day of the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational on Saturday, setting four new program records on the day.
KJ Byrd put together an unforgettable performance in his first heptathlon of his sophomore season, posting a ridiculous total of 6,161 points to win the event and obliterate his previous program record of 5,903 points set at the 2025 ACC Indoor Championships. The total also set a new meet and facility record, while finishing just 30 points from breaking the ACC record in the event.
As part of the record-breaking performance, Byrd also leapt to the top of the Louisville record books in the men's pole vault, clearing a final bar of 5.47m (17-11.25) that not only broke the Louisville school record, but also set a new NCAA record for pole vault by a combined event athlete, edging out the previous record of 5.46m (17-11) that was set by Houston's Grant Levesque at the 2024 NCAA Indoor Championships.
Just a week after moving up to No. 2 on the all-time list in the women's 800m, Lucinda Rourke broke the program record in the women's mile with a winning time of 4:39.65 to better Tarah McKay's time of 4:40.18 that had stood since 2009. Nancy Chepleting also notched a record-breaking mile run in her collegiate debut at the distance, setting a new Louisville freshman record of 4:49.68.
Freshman Breanna Braham set the fourth and final program record of the day in the women's 400m, racing to a time of 54.82 in her first appearance over 400m at the collegiate level. With the time, Braham has now notched two program records (women's 300m) in her first three collegiate meets.
The Cardinals continued to flex their muscle in the women's pole vault, accounting for three of the top four finishers in the competition. Iliana Triantafyllou picked up the win with a mark of 4.47m (14-8) to move into a tie for second in school history. Ashley Callahan rounded out the top three with a bar of 4.32m (14-2), and Lydia Stuart cleared a height of 4.17m (13-8.25) to place fourth.
The Cards also accounted for three of the top four spots in the women's triple jump, led by Alba Cuns Iglesias' winning mark of 13.17m (43-2.5) that set a new meet record. Anna Panneko placed third after tying her personal record with a mark of 12.73m (41-9.25), and Athena Peterson finished fourth overall and moved up to ninth in program history with a personal-best leap of 12.47m (40-11) .
In the men's triple jump, Roman Kuleshov became the third man in program history to eclipse the 16-meter mark indoors, bounding to a meet-record and personal-best mark of 16.02m (52-6.75).
Kaia Tupu-South finished as the women's shot put runner-up with a season-best mark of 17.05m (55-11.25) that ranks fourth all-time, while Johnny Sabinski posted a massive personal-best of 17.20m (56-5.25) to place third.
The women's 4x400m relay rounded out the day with yet another top-10 performance as the quartet of McKenzie Bell, Ruby Nwosu, Sophia Day, and Braham moved to eighth in program history with a time of 3:42.66.
Over the course of the two-day event, the Cards set five new program records, accounted for 21 performances that currently rank among the top 10 in program history, and saw 31 personal records.
The Cardinals will return to the track next weekend when they split between the Eastern Indoors in Louisville on Feb. 6 and the Windy City Invitational in Chicago on Feb. 6-7.
