Brouw Breaks 800m Record to Open Split Weekend

The New Mexico transfer clocked a time of 1:47.09 at the Windy City Invitational in Chicago.
The University of Louisville track & field teams capped off the first day of their split weekend on Friday, as the squads were divided between the Eastern Indoors, Fairgrounds Invitational, and Windy City Invitational.Â

EASTERN INDOORS

The Cards began the day by contesting the Eastern Indoors, the final indoor meet of the season that will take place at the Norton Healthcare Sports & Learning Center in Louisville.Â

With a limited group of athletes, the Cards picked up three event victories over the single day of competition, led by JB Terrill in the men's 800m, who knocked a second off his previous personal best time with a 1:51.02 that moves him up to fifth in program history.
Â
Ty McPhail also claimed the top spot in the men's pole vault with a bar of 5.10m (16-8.75), while Lucas Couron finished as the runner-up with a matching clearance. Additionally, Lydia Stuart finished second in the women's pole vault with a mark of 3.97m (13-0.25).

Cullen McReynolds rounded out the day in Louisville with a win in the men's long jump, leaping to a final mark of 6.99m (22-11.25).

The Louisville throwers kicked off the first of two days at the Fairgrounds Invitational in Indianapolis, with Demaria King placing third in the women's weight throw with a mark of 18.70m (61-4.25) to lead the charge.
Â
Competition in Indy will continue tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. ET with the men's shot put, while the Cards will also be represented in the women's shot put at 12:30 p.m. ET.

At the Windy City Invitational in Chicago, Ethan Brouw climbed to the top of the Louisville record books in the men's 800m, finishing as the overall runner-up and the top collegiate athlete in the invitational section of the event with a time of 1:47.09.
Â
The time marks a new personal best for the New Mexico transfer and takes nearly half a second off the previous school record of 1:47.65 that was set by Ryan Farrell last season at the 2025 ACC Indoor Championships.

Breanna Braham raced to a time of 54.89 to finish fourth in the women's 400m, narrowly missing out on breaking her own program record of 54.82 that she set last weekend at the PNC Lenny Lyles Invitational.
