After missing 2024 due to injury, Svetanoff returns to action for the Cards as a key component in 2025.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Alex Svetanoff of the University of Louisville men's soccer team was named to the 2025 ACC Men's Soccer Preseason Watch List, the conference announced Wednesday.
After missing the entire 2024 season due to injury, he returns to competitive form as Louisville's goalkeeper.
The redshirt-junior had a standout 2023 campaign, his first collegiate season, in which he played every minute in goal, logging 1,910 minutes, and achieving six shutouts. He also recorded 96 saves, the most by a Louisville goalkeeper since 1995.
Svetanoff's remarkable season was highlighted by a strong start. In his collegiate debut, he single-handedly secured a 1–0 shutout against No. 16 Tulsa, thwarting all six shots on target and earning ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors as well as a spot on the College Soccer News Men's National Team of the Week.
Over the season he continued his string of clean sheets with shutouts over Bellarmine and UNC Greensboro and delivered a five-save shutout at Evansville. His consistency carried into the postseason, where he posted back-to-back clean sheets against Boston College and at Oakland.
Svetanoff also rose to the occasion in high-pressure matches, making a career-high nine saves in the ACC Championship first-round win at Pittsburgh, followed by an 11-save performance in the semifinal against Clemson.
The ACC Preseason Watch List is composed of 15 players across the conference, with Svetanoff being one of two goalkeepers on the list.
The Cardinals will kick off the regular season on Thursday, August 21 with a home match against Southern Indiana at 5 p.m. ET.
