The Cards return for the series finale at 6 p.m. tomorrow on the ACCN
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville softball team dropped a close one Saturday afternoon, falling 3-0 to No. 6/7 Florida State in the second game of the series at Ulmer Stadium.
The Cards fall to 23-23 (6-14 ACC) on the season while FSU improves to (42-6, 16-1 ACC).
UofL honored Izzy Harrison, Sam Booe, Maddi Grant, and Ally Alexander before the game as the Cardinals celebrated Senior Day.
After a quiet first inning from both teams, Florida State managed to get a runner in scoring position after Kennedy Harp singled through the left side then stole second. Brooke Gray shut the door on the Seminoles however, striking out Krystina Hartley to strand the runner at second and keep the game scoreless heading into the bottom of the second.
Both squads remained scoreless through the fifth inning as each starting pitcher continued to record efficient outs with both offenses combining for only three hits.
Florida State threatened to break the scoreless tie in the top of the sixth off a double to left center by Jaysoni Beachum. Chelsea Mack took away the scoring opportunity however, as she laid out to make a diving catch in center field to end the inning.
The Seminoles scored the first runs of the game in the seventh inning as a single up the middle and a walk set up the RBI opportunity for Isa Torres. A double to left field plated two runs for Florida State. Jahni Kerr added to the Seminole lead after a single through the left side scored Torres.
The Cardinals were unable to plate a run in the bottom of the seventh, despite a walk and a passed ball putting a runner in scoring position.
Gray (8-9) took the loss after giving up three runs, all in the seventh inning, despite only giving up four total hits prior to the inning. Freshman Jazzy Francik (8-2) secured the win for FSU, only allowing two hits while tallying six strikeouts on the day.
Louisville will wrap-up its home schedule in the final game of the series against the top-ranked Seminoles. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. ET and can be seen on the ACCN.
