Cardinals Set to Take On Tennessee in Spring Match

Cards vs. Vols will compete at Freedom Hall
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -Â The University of Louisville volleyball team continues its spring season with a match against the Tennessee Volunteers on Saturday, April 12, at Freedom Hall at 12 p.m. This is the third of four spring matches for the Cards.
UofL won its first two matches of the spring season, besting Vanderbilt in five sets (25-16, 23-25, 25-21, 27-25, 25-9) and taking down Indiana in four sets (25-22, 25-16, 25-21, 25-15). New Louisville head coach Dan Meske has a strong group of new players, including transfer outside hitter Chloe Chicoine from Purdue. Joining the setter rotation this spring is freshman Hannah Kenny, while freshman Kalyssa Blackshear enters the blocking rotation. Both Kenny and Blackshear come to Louisville with highly decorated prep careers from Illinois and California, respectively. The Cards returned star middle blockers Cara Cresse and Reese Robins from the 2024 roster, in addition to ACC Freshman of the Year, setter Nayelis Cabello.Â
Tennessee finished 2024 at 15-12 overall and 8-8 in SEC play. The Lady Vols faced UofL early last season, where The Cards took down Tennessee in straight sets in the KFC Yum! Center. The Lady Vols made the NCAA Tournament, but fell in five sets to Georgia Tech in the first round. Leading the program is head coach Eve Rackham Watt, who starts her eighth season in Knoxville in 2025. Rackham Watt was named the 2023 SEC Co-Coach of the Year following a 26-5 record and a No. 8 national ranking. Over the off-season, Tennessee added three big transfers in libero Gülce Güçtekin from Wisconsin, middle blocker Zoë Humphrey from UCLA, and outside hitter Starr Williams from New Mexico State. Highlighting the returners to Rocky Top are setter Caroline Kerr, outside hitter Hayden Kubik, and middle blocker Keondreya Granberry.Â
