Louisville Drops Series Finale to No. 19/21 Duke
March 30, 2025 | Softball
The Cards move to 20-15 (3-9 ACC)
Duke took an early lead in the first inning, scoring 10 runs. The Cards did not have an answer in the bottom of the first, but Sam Booe made quick work of the top of the second to bring Louisville back up to bat.
In the home half of the second inning, Madison Pickens scored Taylor Monroe on a single to get UofL on the board.Â
In the third inning, the Blue Devils launched a two-run homer to extend their lead 12-1.Â
Ally Alexander got on base with a bunt to start the bottom of the third, before Char Lorenz moved her over to second on a single. Camryn Lookadoo drew a walk to load the bases as Jac Hasty came up to bat. Hasty hit a sacrifice fly to score Alexander and give Louisville its second run of the game, but Lorenz and Lookadoo were stranded on base.Â
Izzy Harrison tossed two big swinging strikeouts to limit Duke's scoring in the fourth. Pickens took a walk to lead off the home half of the inning, and Easton Lotus knocked in a single soon after. Both players advanced to scoring position on a wild pitch, and Alexander walked to load the bases. Bri Despines tapped in a single to right field to score Pickens and Lotus and bring the score to 12-4.
With no Blue Devils runs scored in the top of the fifth, the Cards looked to rally as Katie Thatcher started the home half of the inning with a pinch-hit single. Pickens was hit by a pitch to get on base, before Lotus drew a walk and loaded the bases. Alexander came through with a bases-clearing double to bring Louisville within five at 12-7. Lorenz scored Alexander on a single as the last run of the inning.
Duke scored one run in the sixth off of an RBI double to extend the margin back to five at 13-8. Alexander came up big for UofL as she recorded all three outs in the top of the inning. The Cards were unable to score in the bottom of the sixth.
The top of the seventh saw the Blue Devils score two runs on a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly to lead 15-8, and UofL looked to rally in the home half of the inning.Â
After two quick outs, Lotus ripped a single and Jordan Williams came in to pinch-run. Williams was stranded as Louisville could not complete the rally.
Brooke Gray took the loss in the circle as she moves to 5-6 on the year. Hailey Shuler grabbed the win for the Blue Devils, moving her to 2-0 so far this season.
The Cards will be back in action on Wednesday, April 2, for the Battle of the Bluegrass. First pitch against Kentucky is slated for 8 p.m. ET inside Ulmer Stadium. The game will be broadcast on ESPN2.
