Louisville Comes Up Short Against No.29 Wake Forest 5-1

The Cards 82-ranked duo of Otis/Iila earn second ranked doubles win of the season
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville women's tennis team fell short against No. 29 Wake Forest, losing 5-1 on Sunday afternoon at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The Cardinals are now 5-4 overall and 0-3 against ACC opponents.
Wake Forest opened doubles play with a win on Court 3, as Anna Zheng and Whitley Pate defeated Louisville's Lika Peresypkina and Berta Miret, 6-1. The pair of Kady Tannenbaum and Nevena Carton bested Germany Davis and Allie Gretkowski on Court 2, 7-5, to secure the doubles point for the Demon Deacons. Louisville's 82nd-ranked pair of Elisabeth Iila and Alice Otis ensured that the Cards avoided a doubles sweep, defeating 75th-ranked pair Krystal Blanch and Makayla Mills on Court 1, 7-6 (7-4), but it was Wake Forest who took the advantage into singles play.
Louisville bounced back as singles action began, as Germany Davis quickly defeated Brianna Balda, 6-1, 6-2, on Court 6.Â
Anna Zhang gave the Demon Deacons their first singles point, defeating Louisville's Elena Noguero on Court 3, 6-3, 7-6 (7-2). Wake Forest continued its momentum, as No. 95 Krystal Blanch defeated Lika Peresypkina, 6-3, 2-6, 6-3, on Court 2 and put the Demon Deacons on the doorstep of victory.
The Cards fought hard on every court, but Wake Forest clinched the match when Whitley Pate defeated Allie Gretkowski on Court 4, 3-6, 6-4, 7-5. Just after the finish on Court 4, Nevena Carton defeated Alice Otis on the first court, 6-1, 5-7, 6-2, securing Wake Forest's 5-1 win.
Louisville is back in action on Saturday, March 8 at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center as it hosts Xavier. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET.
