The Cardinals won 6-2 in the series finale on Sunday.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville baseball team closed out its weekend series with a 6-2 victory over St. John's on Sunday at Jim Patterson Stadium.
Louisville (8-2) bounced back after Saturday's loss to secure the series victory.
Peter Michael (1-0) turned in a strong effort in his third start for the Cardinals. The right-hander allowed just one run on four hits in 5.2 innings, striking out six for his first win at Louisville.
Meanwhile, the Cardinals got all the offense they would need with one swing in the third inning. With a pair of runners on, Alex Alicea hammered a 3-1 pitch over the right field wall for his first home run of the season.
One inning later, Lucas Moore burned the left fielder with a double up against the wall that brought two home and stretched the lead to 5-0.
St. John's (1-8) plated its first run in the sixth and threatened to do more damage with the bases loaded and the tying run at the plate with two outs. However, Ethan Eberle entered from the bullpen and punched out the batter to thwart the rally.
The Red Storm got one run closer with a two-out single in the seventh, but the Cardinals' bullpen would shut it down from there.
Brandin Crawford retired four of the five batters he faced in his first collegiate appearance. Wyatt Danilowicz then slammed the door shut with three straight strikeouts in the ninth.
Nate Earley added insurance for the Cards in the eighth, coming off the bench to deliver a run-scoring double.
Moore and Alicea each tallied a pair of hits and combined to drive in five of Louisville's six runs on the day.
Louisville will host Morehead State in midweek action on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. ET at Jim Patterson Stadium.
