The Chicago native was a freshman All-American in 2024.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville outfielder Zion Rose was named to the 2025 Golden Spikes Award Preseason Watch List released by USA Baseball on Friday.
Rose is one of 55 players across high school and college baseball on the watch list. The Golden Spikes Advisory Board will maintain the award's watch list on a rolling basis, allowing athletes to play themselves into consideration for the award based on in-season performance.
The sophomore is the 14th different Louisville player to be on the preseason watch list since 2009 and the first since Jack Payton in 2023.
Rose led the Cardinals with a .380 batting average last season, the top mark of any Power Five freshman during the regular season. He finished the season with 19 extra-base hits, 32 RBIs and 42 runs scored, while swiping 10 bases.
During the summer, Rose was one of three Cardinals to compete as part of the USA Collegiate National Team.
Rose and the Cardinals open the season Feb. 14-16 at Globe Life Park in Arlington, Texas, for the Shriners Children's College Showdown.
