No. 7 Cardinals Sweep Wolfpack

RALEIGH, N.C. -Â Outside hitter Chloe Chicoine's 15 kills led the No. 7-ranked University of Louisville volleyball team to a sweep over NC State. Louisville (19-4, 11-2 ACC) won 25-19, 25-18, 25-20 in Raleigh, N.C., for its third straight sweep.

Chicoine was joined in double-digit kills by opposite hitter Kalyssa Blacksher who logged 11 kills on 19 attacks. Middle blocker Cara Cresse hit at a team-high .818 clip, posting nine kills on 11 attacks and no errors, marking the highest hitting percentage of any Louisville player this season. Cresse also stuffed five blocks on the night with fellow middle blocker Hannah Sherman adding four of her own and outside hitter Payton Petersen tabbing two. At the service line, four different Cards combined for six aces. Two aces came from both libero Kamden Schrand and setter/libero Hannah Kenny, and defensive specialist Molly Urban and Petersen served the other two. Schrand dug 16 balls and Kenny posted 11 digs to lead the defense. UofL hit .343 as a team with six acess and nine blocks.Â

NC State (11-12, 4-9 ACC) was led by outside hitter Courtney Bryant with 13 kills and a .303 hitting percentage, and freshman outside hitter Rebecca Ring tabbed nine kills. Setter Elasia Villar grabbed a team-high 16 digs with libero Zuzann Maciejewicz logging 10 of her own. The Wolfpack hit .169 with two aces and three blocks.Â

Set 1: Louisville 25, NC State 19
Louisville got off to a fast start, pulling ahead 15-11 at the media timeout with Cresse, Blackshear, Sherman, Chicoine, Petersen and Kenny all getting on the board for the Cards. NC State started inching back, going on a 3-0 scoring run out of the break to put the score at 15-14. Despite the Wolfpack's efforts, UofL led 19-15 and forced NCSU to use its first timeout. A block connection between Cresse and Petersen gave Louisville set point at 24-19, and Cresse sealed the set 25-19 with a kill.Â

Set 2: Louisville 25, NC State 18
After aces from Schrand, Kenny and Petersen, the Cards got out to a 9-4 lead that saw NC State take its first timeout. UofL led 18-11 at the Wolfpack's second timeout and the teams traded points until Petersen grabbed set point on a kill at 24-17. NCSU held off the end of the set for one more point, but Cresse grabbed the set-winning kill once again at 25-18.Â

Set 3: Louisville 25, NC State 20
Scoring was tight through the beginning of the third set as neither team took a lead larger than four. Louisville led 15-12 going into the media break and extended its lead to 20-14 before NC State began fighting back. The Wolfpack went on a 4-0 run to get within three at 22-19, but a kill by Chicoine and a solo stuff by Sherman put the Cards at match point 24-19. NCSU grabbed one more point on a kill, but Chicoine's 15th kill of the match clinched the win 25-20.Â
