
Monroe, Pickens Named to Softball America Freshman Watch List

Taylor Monroe and Madison Pickens represent Louisville on Softball America’s preseason list
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville's Taylor Monroe and Madison Pickens have been named to the Softball America Freshman Watch List as announced by the organization today.

Monroe, an infielder from Spencer, Ind., brings a solid resume into her first collegiate season. The Owen Valley High School product is a three-time All-Western Indiana Conference and all-region selection. As a senior, she was named the 2024 Harold-Times Female Athlete of the Year and earned Indiana All-State and All-Star recognition after posting a .603 batting average and belting out a school-record 13 home runs. Monroe also owns Lady Patriots' record for career homers (40) and RBI 152. She also played for the Bandits Conroy travel team.

Pickens, who hails from Flowery Branch, Ga., also carries impressive credentials as she enters her freshman campaign. The catcher/outfielder helped lead Buford High School win back-to-back state titles. As a senior, the 2023 Region and Gwinnett County Player of the Year registered a .609 batting average and a school-record 20 home runs to go along with a .660 on base percentage and a 24-game hitting streak. The three-time all-region and two-time all-state and all-county honoree also played for the Georgia Impact 18U Premier Sampson travel team.

Louisville will open the 2025 season on Feb. 7 when the Cardinals take on Middle Tennessee and Liberty at The Spring Games tournament in Leesburg, Fla.
