Cardinals Continue Homestand Against UT Martin
September 04, 2024 | Women's Soccer
Louisville is 3-0-1 at home this season
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Louisville women's soccer team is back in action at home this week as it is in the midst of a three-game homestand. The Cardinals welcome UT Martin to Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium Thursday night for a non-conference matchup. It is the second of three straight at home for the Cards and they will square off with the Skyhawks at 7:30 p.m. ET and it will be streamed on the ACC Network Extra.
The Cardinals are unbeaten (4-0-2) through their first six games this season and the play on the offensive end has been a big reason why. The Cardinals rank in the Top-25 nationally in Goal Differential (+13, T12), Total Goals (17; T14th), Total Assists (15; T19) and Scoring Offense (2.83, T25) this season. The Cards have scored 17 goals this season, surpassing their season total of 15 from last season. Louisville has had four multi-goal games this season and that matches their total from last year.
Individually, the Cardinals have a number of players high up the ACC and national rankings. Senior Brooke Dardano has been the set piece specialist for the Cards and she is currently tied for the NCAA lead with six assists this season. She set a Lynn Stadium record with three assists in the opener and has had an assist in each of her last two games. In just six games, Dardano has matched the team lead in assists from last season at six total assists.
Mackenzie Geigle and Karsyn Cherry lead the team with four goals each and both of them had strong performances last week. Cherry scored in both games and set a career high with three points in the win over Evansville. Geigle tallied her first career brace in the win over the Aces. The pair are tied for fourth in the ACC in goals this season and Cherry leads the ACC amongst defenders in total goals this year.
The Cardinals and Skyhawks will meet for the fourth time in program history on Thursday and the Cards hold a 2-1 all-time advantage. This will be the first meeting between the two schools since the 2002 season and will only be the second meeting in Louisville. The first meeting between the two schools came back in 2000 and it was the first win for head coach Karen Ferguson-Dayes at Louisville as they came away with a 4-0 victory over the Skyhawks on August 26, 2000.
