September 24, 2024 | Men's Soccer
Louisville picked up a 2-1 defeat on Tuesday night.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's soccer team suffered a 2-1 loss against UAB on Tuesday night at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium.
Louisville (4-3-1) dominated the offensive chances categories but took its second home loss of the season.
The Cardinals controlled the opening 45 minutes of play, earning six corner kicks and taking five shots in the opening half but failing to get on the scoreboard.
Meanwhile, UAB (4-1-3) was held without a shot in the first half and had just one corner kick chance.
The Blazers jumped in front early in the second half, with a long run through defenders leading to a goal to start the scoring in the 52nd minute.
Louisville's equalizer came just over 10 minutes later. Sander Roed lofted a cross into the box from the left flank and Leon Kondic headed it into the right side of the net.
The goal was the second of the season for Kondic, while Roed notched his second assist of the year. The assist was the 24th of Roed's career, bringing him to within two of the program's career record.
The match didn't stay tied for long, however. UAB quickly answered, scoring less than three minutes after the Cardinals had tied the match to jump back in front.
Louisville worked to find the tying goal over the final 25 minutes but was unsuccessful. The Cards took six shots over that stretch.
The Cardinals finished the night with a 14-5 edge in shots and 10 corner kicks to just two for UAB.
Louisville will now head on the road for consecutive conference matches. The Cardinals will be at Boston College on Sunday with kickoff scheduled for 3 p.m. ET.
