September 13, 2024 | Women's Soccer
The Cards are 1-0-1 away from home this season
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Louisville women's soccer team is hitting the road to begin ACC play this weekend as they head to Steel City to battle with Pitt. The Cardinals (5-1-2) and Panthers (6-1-1) only have one blemish on the season as they kick start conference play on Saturday. The match is set to start at 7 p.m. ET and it will be streamed on the ACC Network Extra.
The Cards head into conference play after a successful non-conference slate. Louisville scored 19 goals and picked up five wins, both totals higher than the full season totals from last year. In all of the five wins, the Cardinals scored multiple goals after having just four multi-goal games last season.
Karsyn Cherry has started all eight matches at center back but she has the scoring touch this season. Cherry leads the team with five goals this year and they have all come off of set pieces. Cherry leads the ACC among defenders in goals this season. Brooke Dardano is tied for second in the ACC in assists with six this season after coming into the season with four career assists. Dardano has assisted on four of Cherry's goals this season.
Mackenzie Geigle and Amber Jackson have both tallied braces so far this season. Jackson scored twice in the season-opening win over Bellarmine and Geigle scored twice in the win over Evansville. Geigle is second on the team with four goals this season and Jackson is third with three goals.
This will be the 12th meeting all-time between the Panthers and Cardinals and Louisville holds an 8-3 series advantage. Last season when the two teams met, the Cards came away with a 3-2 win at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium. Emma Hiscock opened the scoring for the Cards in the first half and then Emersen Jennings and Geigle scored in the second half to secure the win. It was Geigle's first career goal that ended up being the game-winning tally.
