Cardinals Host Louisville Invitational to Kick Off Fall Season

Louisville will play at host to 10 teams for Friday through Sunday at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville men's tennis team will kick off the 2024 fall season at 8 a.m. on Friday for the first day of the Louisville Invitational.
Forty-eight individuals from 10 different teams will compete over three days at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center,
Six of the 10 teams competing finished the 2024 spring season ranked by the ITA: Kentucky (5), Michigan State (23), Memphis (27), Illinois (32), Louisville (53), and Notre Dame (55). Bellarmine, Belmont, Eastern Kentucky, and Southern Indiana round out the slate of opponents.
Five teams have individuals and doubles pairings in the newest ITA individual rankings from August 29. Kentucky and Michigan State bring the most with four total rankings; Kentucky owns three spots in the singles rankings and one spot in the doubles rankings, while Michigan State holds two spots in both singles and doubles. The Spartans' Ozan Baris claimed the #1 spot as an individual.
Illinois comes to Louisville with two players in the singles rankings and one doubles ranking. Notre Dame and Memphis each have a spot in both rankings.
Louisville is coming off a successful spring season, in which the Cardinals finished 14-14 and had a historic run in the NCAA Doubles Tournament. Louisville earned a season-high ranking of 27 during the spring of 2024.
Returners for the Cards are highlighted junior Will Mayew and sophomores Miguel Avendaño, Kosuke Nakanishi, Enrique Peña and Piet Steveker, who all saw significant time on the court in the spring. They are joined by freshman newcomer, Adrien Ducruet, and sophomore transfer, Hamza El Amine. Two-time All-American Natan Rodrigues as well as Andre' Steinbach will not be playing with the Cardinals in the fall season, but will return to The Ville in the spring.
