Louisville's Comeback Falls Short Against Middle Tennessee

Matei Onofrei was the only Cardinal to earn both a singles and doubles win on the day
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - After dropping the first three points, the University of Louisville men's tennis team claimed two singles wins but were unable complete the rally, falling 4-2 to Middle Tennessee on Friday night.
After switching up the usual lineup for doubles competition, the top court saw a ranked matchup between Louisville's No. 65 Walid Ahouda and Hamza El Amine versus MTSU's No. 60 Karim Al-Amin and Ondrej Horak. The Tigers duo came out victorious in the matchup, 6-2.
In their first time playing together, Russell Lokko and Matei Onofrei claimed a 6-3 victory on Court 3 seconds before Middle Tennessee clinched the doubles point on Court 2.
The Tigers carried this momentum into singles competition taking down courts two then six in straight sets.
Ahouda attempted to start the rally for the Cards by rallying in his own match, taking down No. 115 Horak by a score of 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. Onofrei followed shortly with a three-set thriller of his own, tallying a 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 victory on Court 4.
While both remaining Cards put up a valiant effort in third sets, MTSU claimed Court 5 to clinch a 4-2 victory.
Louisville will enjoy two weeks off before it returns to action with the start of ACC play against Miami on February 27 with first serve set for 5 p.m. at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
