February 27, 2026 | Men's Tennis
Ahouda and Onofrei each recorded their eighth singles win of the spring season tonight, tying them for the team lead
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The No. 59-ranked University of Louisville men's tennis team rallied to overtake No. 58 Miami in a hard-fought 4-3 win at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center on Friday night.
"So proud of how the guys competed today," said UofL head coach Rodrigo da Silva. "Playing our first outdoor match of the season, being behind 3-1 and finding a way to get a win. It was an amazing effort. Pedro [Cressoni] handled the pressure situation really well and was able to get the final point. Time to get our body and mind ready for Sunday."
Doubles action started on a high note as the Cardinals pair of Hamza El Amine and Pedro Cressoni overpowered their opponents on court three, finishing first with a 6-1 victory.
Miami took court two shortly before Walid Ahouda and Andre' Steinbach took their doubles match into a tiebreaker against Hurricanes Jakub Kroslak and Antonio Pratt but fell short, 7-6 (7-5).
The Hurricanes claimed the first singles court, but UofL was able to battle back. Ahouda finished second on court one after recording a dominate win in straight sets against No. 100 Antonio Prat to put the first point on the board for the Cards.
After Miami earned its third point of the match, Steinbach scored the second point for Louisville after posting a 6-4, 6-4 victory. With the win, his singles record improves to 6-1 on the spring season.
Matei Onofrei pushed Miami's Rafael Segado into a third set after he dropped the first set to tie the match at 3-3 for the Cards.
After falling 6-4 in the opening set, Cressoni, the senior from Brazil, fought back to win the next two sets 6-4, 6-4 to clinch the match for the Cardinals.
UofL will return to action for a double header on Sunday, March 1 at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The first match is slated against No. 45 Florida State with first serve set for 12 p.m. before setting up for their rescheduled match against Southern Indiana at 5 p.m.
