Cards Sweep Doubleheader Against Belmont and Tennessee State

Louisville defeated Belmont 6-1 and swept Tennessee State 7-0
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's tennis team improves to 8-0 in doubleheaders this season after beating Belmont and Tennessee State on Saturday afternoon at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center. The Cards topped the Bruins 6-1, then dominated the Tigers 7-0.
Louisville 6, Belmont 1
The Cards came out hot in doubles competition, with No. 86-ranked duo Matei Onofrei and Andre' Steinbach earning a 6-3 win on Court 1. Shortly after, Russell Lokko and Pedro Cressoni clinched the doubles point for UofL following a 6-1 victory on Court 3.
With a 1-0 lead, Onofrei got things started in singles play, claiming Court 4 with a 6-1, 6-2 win. Walid Ahouda wasn't far behind, securing victory in straight sets on Court 1 to bring the Cardinals within a point of winning. Cressoni clinched the match for Louisville, taking care of business on Court 5, 6-0, 6-2.
With the victory in their hands, the Cards continued to roll by taking down courts six then two. Belmont claimed its only point of the contest in a third-set tiebreak on Court 3, the final court to finish and only one to enter a third set.

The Tigers played the match down one player, so they forfeited a doubles court and a singles court.
Onofrei and Louis Chusseau clinched the doubles point for UofL, winning Court 2, 6-1. No. 65-ranked Ahouda and El Amine wrapped up doubles play with a 6-4 victory on Court 1.
Entering singles play with a one-point advantage, freshman Jerald Carroll dominated 6-0, 6-0. Steinbach followed with a win in straight sets to clinch the match for the Cardinals. With the victory secured, Ahouda cleared Court 1 and Chusseau grabbed Court 5, both in straight sets. Onofrei capped off the night for Louisville, winning Court 3, 6-3, 6-2.
The Cardinals hit the road to Murfreesboro, Tenn., to take on Middle Tennessee State University on Friday, February 13. First serve is set for 5 p.m. ET.
