August 28, 2024 | Men's Soccer
Louisville turned in a 2-1 road victory on Wednesday night.
TULSA, Okla. – The 15th-ranked University of Louisville soccer team picked up a 2-1 victory at Tulsa on Wednesday night in its first road match of the young season.
Sander Roed and Gage Guerra netted first-half goals and it proved to be enough to improve the Cardinals to 2-0-0.
Louisville got on the board quickly on Wednesday, taking advantage of a turnover in midfield.
A quick exchange of possession found the ball at the feet of Roed near the midfield stripe. The senior looked up to see the Tulsa keeper off his line and lofted a shot over his outstretched arm as he scrambled back to the net to give the Cards a 1-0 lead 10 minutes in.
Louisville doubled its advantage in the 27th minute on another long-distance strike. This time, Guerra struck from straight on nearly 30 yards out for his second tally in as many matches.
Tulsa (0-2-0) took some momentum back late in the first half, controlling possession and breaking through in the final minute before halftime to cut the lead in half at the break.
Harvey Sellers and the Louisville defense made the lead stand up in the second half, keeping the Golden Hurricane off the scoreboard.
Sellers, playing in his second match at UofL, made four saves on the night and got some help with a team save in the first half.
Tulsa outshot the Cardinals 16-7 on Wednesday and held a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Louisville now returns home to take on in-city foe Bellarmine on Monday night. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium.
