Cardinals Have Three Swim in Thursday's Olympic Prelims

Barna, Somov and Golovaty were competing in Paris
PARIS -- The University of Louisville had three swimmers competing at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games with Evgenii Somov, Andrej Barna and Daria Golovaty in the water Thursday morning at the Paris La Defense Arena.

Louisville had two sprinters in the water Thursday morning. Swimming as a neutral athlete, Evgenii Somov, who was a member of the Cardinals NCAA championship 200 medley relay team, touched fourth in Heat 5 of the 50M freestyle with a time of 23.43. Â Andrej Barna, a 17-time All-American for the Cards, was fifth in Heat 7 of the 50M freestyle, boarding a 22.19. Australian Cameron McEvoy will be the top qualifier in this evening's semifinals with his time of 21.32.

In the women's 4x200M free relay, incoming freshman Daria Golovaty swam the second leg of the 4x200 Free Relay team. The Israeli team touched in 7:45.63 to finish 11th overall. Australia put up the fastest time in prelims to be the top seed in tonight's finals with a 7:45.63.
