
Three Cardinals Punch Their Tickets to Paris Olympics

Sartori, Albiero and Praasterink will compete for gold
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- As the Paris Olympic Games draw closer, three Louisville Cardinals have punched their ticket to compete on the worlds' largest stage.
Louisville's Murilo Sartori, who won gold at the ACC Championships in the 800 free relay, won the Brazilian national championship in the 200 freestyle to lock in a berth at the Olympics for Brazil's 800 Free Relay team. He turned in the winning time of 1:46.98. He has until June 23 to make the CBDA-mandated Olympic Qualification Time of 1:46.26 to swim in the individual 200 free event.
Another familiar face at the 2024 Brazilian Swimming Championships was UofL's Nicolas Albiero, who posted lifetime best as he earned gold in the men's 200m butterfly with the winning time of 1:55.52. His previous lifetime best of 1:55.85 came at the U.S. Olympic Trials in 2021. Albiero, has also competed for Team USA National Team Member and was a multiple NCAA champion for the Cardinals.  He joined club MTC Natac¸a~o in Belo Horizonte. His time is made the CBDA Olympic Qualification Time of 1:55.78 qualifies him for his first Olympic Games for Brazil.

DIVING UPDATE:
The Louisville divers spent two weeks on the road competing in various meets, vying for spots at the upcoming USA Olympic Trials and gaining valuable international meet experience.

Louisville's Else Praasterink punched her ticket to Paris in February by finishing in the top 12 in platform at the World Aquatics Championships in Doha, Qatar.

The trio of Lindsay Gizzi, Grace Leonard, and Rayce Winn competed at the Last Chance Olympic Trials Qualifier at IUPUI. Grace and Lindsay teamed up to compete 3-meter synchronized diving where they placed second with a score of 211.29. The pair also competed in the individual 3-meter event where Lindsay finished in fifth with a score of 251.35 and Grace placed 17th with a score of 209.15. Rayce competed in the men's platform event where he finished in 11th with a 232.90.

Else Praasterink also competed at IUPUI in the American Cup where she represented her home nation the Netherlands on the 10-meter platform. Else finished in seventh place in the finals with a score of 288.30. Praasterink and UofL diving coach Ryan Rougeux made the trip to Calgary, Alberta for the Canada Cup, the international competition used as a training meet for the 2024 Paris Olympics. In Canada, Else competed on the 10-meter platform where she earned a silver medal with a final score of 297.05. Praasterink has a busy summer ahead with plans to compete at the Great Britain Nationals May 23-26, European Championships June 19, as a tune-up for the 2024 Paris Olympics in August.
