Louisville suffered a 6-4 defeat on Saturday.
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The University of Louisville baseball team suffered a 6-4 loss in game two of the weekend series at No. 8 North Carolina on Saturday.
Louisville (29-21, 13-13 ACC) has now lost three consecutive games and will look to avoid being swept for the first time this season on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for noon ET and will be televised on ACC Network.
Saturday was a tale of two games with nine of the 10 runs scoring in the opening four innings with the lead changing hands three times.
North Carolina (38-11, 19-7) took the first lead with a run in the first inning, but Eddie King Jr. tied the game at one apiece on a run-scoring single in the second.
The Tar Heels grabbed the lead back with two runs in the third, however Luke Napleton gave Louisville its first lead of the day with a three-run homer in the fourth.
Louisville's lead wouldn't last long though, as UNC pushed two runs across in the bottom of the fourth to jump back in front at 5-4.
From there, the two bullpens shut down the scoring.
Louisville got the tying run to third with one out in the sixth but couldn't bring him home. North Carolina then added an insurance run in the seventh to stretch its lead to two.
After going quietly in the eighth, the Cardinals went to the ninth inning needing two runs to stay alive. King hit a one-out double off the left field wall and Logan Beard was hit by a pitch to put the tying runs on the corners. However, a strikeout and fly out left both runners on and ended the game.
Evan Webster (4-2) suffered his first road loss of the season, allowing five runs over three innings. Patrick Forbes pitched three scoreless innings, while Kaleb Corbett recorded five outs without giving up a run.
Napleton was 2-for-4, scoring the first run and driving in the other three for the Cardinals. King added two hits and Zion Rose was 2-for-2 and reached in all four plate appearances.
