Cardinals Open Weekend with Run-Rule Victory over No. 19 NC State

Louisville picked up an 11-1 win in seven innings on Friday night.
Louisville (18-11, 4-6 ACC) needed just seven innings to grab the win over the Wolfpack.
Sebastian Gongora (4-1) worked all seven innings in the complete-game effort. The southpaw struck out a career high 11 in the win, allowing just one run on three hits.
After Gongora worked a perfect first inning, the Cardinals went to work at the plate. The first three batters of the game reached and Eddie King Jr. put Louisville on the board with a two-run single to right. Isaac Humphrey followed with a fielder's choice that pushed the third run across the plate.
Gongora retired the Wolfpack in order again in the second and the Cards followed with three more in the bottom half. Logan Beard led off the second with a solo home run, his third in his last four games. Three batters later, Zion Rose made it a 6-0 contest with a two-run triple into the right-centerfield gap.
NC State (18-9, 8-5) hit a solo home run in the fourth to snap Gongora's streak of 10 straight set down to start the game. However, it would be all the Wolfpack would get on the night.
The game held at 6-1 through six innings before the Cardinals finished things off with a five-run seventh. Matt Klein doubled home the first run before scoring on a wild pitch. Alex Alicea then recorded a pinch-hit RBI single and Dylan Hoy ended the night early with a two-run double to centerfield.
Rose finished the night with three hits, driving in a pair. King added a 2-for-4 night as eight different Cardinals got into the hit column.
Louisville and NC State continue their three-game series on Saturday with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m. ET.
