
Cardinals Jump to Sixth After Day 2 at NCAA Championships

Sprinters and 200 Free Relay make the podium for UofL
ATHENS, Ga. -- The University of Louisville jumped into the top six after Day 2 of racing at the 2024 NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships at the Jack Bauerle Pool at the Gabrielsen Natatorium in Athens, Georgia.

Virginia maintains the lead after two days of competition followed by Florida, Texas, Stanford, Tennessee, Louisville, Southern California, Indiana, Â Michigan and Georgia to round out the top ten.

The UofL 200 free relay team came into the race as the No. 2 seed and finished second with a time of 1:25.47 put up by Gabi Albiero (21.77), Christiana Regenauer (21.11), Julia Dennis (21.17) and Ella Welch (21.42). The Cards were out-touched by Virginia's foursome that went 1:24.05 for the win. Â Â

The Cardinals put three on the podium in the 50-free, led by Christiana Regenauer's 21.48 which placed her fourth. Julia Dennis was fifth with a time of 21.60 just ahead of sixth-place Gabi Albiero, who clocked in at 21.67. The event was won by Virginia's Gretchen Walsh, who set an NCAA, Meet, Pool, US Open and American record with her time of 20.37.

In the consolation final of the 200 IM, Fernanda Celidonio earned Honorable mention All-America honors when she finished sixth with a time of 1:55.11 shaving .10 off her prelim time. The event was won by Virginia's Alex Walsh, who put up a time of 1:49.20, dropping 2.75 from her preliminary mark.
Friday's preliminaries will blast off the blocks at 10 a.m. with the finals following at 6 p.m. ET.Â
