LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Max Kennedy won his second career tournament to lead the University of Louisville men's golf team to a tournament title at the General Hackler Championship at the Dunes Golf and Beach Club Wednesday in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
The Cardinals won their first tournament championship, and the second under head coach Ryan Blagg, since capturing the Aggie Invitational in during the 2022-2023 season.
Entering the final round with a one-shot lead, the Cardinals dominated action on Wednesday by shooting a 5-under-par 283 to win by five shots ahead of host Coastal Carolina, which shot even-par. The Cardinals closed the tournament at 5-under after carding rounds of 286-290-283=859.
"{I'm really proud of how we competed this week," head coach Ryan Blagg said. "We didn't have our best stuff early in the tournament, but we found a way to stay around the lead. The final round was very windy tough conditions and we hit some great shots down the stretch. We are a young team and this is a big step for us this season."
Kennedy won his second career tournament since he also captured the Aggie Invitational by shooting 7-under-par in 2023. On Wednesday, Kennedy shot a 4-under-par 68 to finish the tournament with an 8-under-par 68-71-69=208 to win by one shot over Jon John Houk of Chattanooga. Playing with just one bogey on his card, Kennedy would eagle No. 4 and record a pair of birdies to secure his win.
"No one works harder than Max and I couldn't be happier for him," Blagg said. "He just knows how to get it done, and he got it done this week."
Cooper Claycomb finished in a tie for third place at 6-under-par for his three rounds by carding 70-71-69=210 for the highest finish of his career and his second in the top 10 in his first season.
Easton Johnson tied for 31st place after firing a five-over-par 210 and Sebastian Moss and Clay Pendergrass both ended the tournament in a tie for 35th after finishing with a 211 6-over-par.
Patrick Keeling tied for 67th overall after playing as an individual.
The Cardinals return to action on April 6-7 at the Aggie Invitational in College Station, Texas.
