Perroni breaks program record with 44 game point-scoring streak
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Three Cardinals recorded hat tricks this afternoon in an ACC loss to No. 3 Boston College, 17-14. Louisville is now 3-5 (1-2 ACC) and Boston College improves to 8-1 (3-0 ACC).
"I thought we battled," said Head Coach Scott Teeter. "We battled all the way for 60 minutes today. They threw a lot at us, a lot of switches, a lot of different styles of defense, and I thought we made the adjustments and played through some adversity as well."
Kokoro Nakazawa paved the way for the Cards, scoring four goals and tallying her seventh hat trick of the season. Nicole Perroni recorded three goals and broke the program's point scoring streak this afternoon with 44 consecutive games. Kylea Dobson also scored three goals in just her second hat trick this season.
"The offense worked well and stuck together," said senior attacker Kokoro Nakazawa. "We were trying to move the ball quickly and we were playing for each other."
The Cards got on the board early this afternoon, with a goal by Kokoro Nakazawa in the opening minute. However, the Eagles responded quickly with five straight goals and Louisville was down 5-2 after the first 15 minutes.
The second quarter was an offensive battle on both ends of the field, as each team scored seven goals. Kokoro Nakazawa and Perroni each had two goals in the second frame and Dobson, Negai Nakazawa, and Maggie McMahon had one apiece. Louisville cut the Eagles' lead to three going into the locker room at half.
The second half started off slow with the first goal coming at 8:11 by Boston College's Ryan Smith. Emma LoPinto grabbed the second straight goal for the Eagles but the Nakazawa sisters responded with one apiece in less than a minute. Boston College had an early fourth-quarter goal to put them up 15-11.
Allegra Catalano scored on an unassisted goal for the Cards but Boston College's Kayla Martello had two consecutive goals to extend the lead to five. Kylea Dobson scored on a free position goal with seven minutes remaining but the Cards were only able to grab one more goal before the clock expired.
Boston College's Rachel Clark led all scorers this afternoon with six goals on nine shot attempts. Martello followed with four goals of her own.
Louisville's 14 goals ties for the most allowed by Boston College this season. The Cards also recorded 20 draw controls this afternoon while the Eagles only had 15.
Sara Addeche tallied 10 saves, her fifth game this season with double-digit saves.
"We just got to learn, take the positives, and keep growing with them," said Teeter. "Fix a little bit of the mistakes or the negatives, and then prepare. We'll get to rest up a little bit, and then get ready for a good Clemson team coming in next weekend"
The Cards will host the No. 20 Clemson Tigers on Saturday, March 16. The opening draw will take place at 2 p.m. ET.
