
Cardinals Put Three on the Podium on Day 3 at the ACC Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The University of Louisville men's and women's swimming and diving teams won three medals on Day 3 of the 2024 Atlantic Coast Conference Thursday evening at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.

The Cardinal women's team  has scored 683 points and trails only Virginia (846.5). NCState is third in the standings with 683 followed by Duke (433.5), North Carolina (401.5), Virginia Tech (308.5), Notre Dame (276), Florida State (266), Pitt (225), Miami (221) and Georgia Tech (220).Â

The Louisville men have scored 458 points and are sitting in third place behind NC State (812.5) and Notre Dame (559.5) and Virginia Tech (469.5). After Louisville comes Florida State (386), North Carolina (380), Virginia (344.5), Pitt (315), Georgia Tech (309), Duke (164), and Miami 94.

Kim Herkle won bronze in the 400 IM with a swim of 4:09.89, shaving almost three seconds off her prelim mark. Rye Ulett, who also swam in the A-final, put up a 4:17.79 for eighth. Paige Kuwata swam in the B-final and went 4:18.94. Ella Nelson of Virginia trimmed five seconds off her prelim time to take gold with a 4:03.80, her fourth consecutive title in the event.

In the men's 400 IM, Tommy Bried earned sixth place points with a 3:45.56. Â In the B-final, Tyler Watson touched fourth, putting up a 3:47.95 and teammate Jackson Millard was sixth with a 3:49.44. NC State's Kyle Ponsler won gold wit ha time of 3:41.18.

Gabi Albiero won silver in the 100 fly, touching in 50.68, dropping .47 from her prelim time to make the podium. Fellow Cardinal Christiana Regenauer was fifth into the wall with a time of 51.20. Gretchen Walsh of Virginia set a meet, conference, American, and NCAA record with a 48.25.

In the men's 100 fly, lone Cardinal Dalon Lowe put up a time of 45.56 for eighth. The race was won by Virginia Tech's Youssef Ramadan, who went 44.05 for gold.

Paige Hetrick won silver in the 200 freestyle, holding off four of Virginia's five swimmers in the heat. Hetrick went 1:44.02 to make the podium, dropping .70 off her prelim time. Aimee Canny of Virginia edged the field with a time of 1:43.10.

In the men's 200 freestyle, Murilo Sartori took fifth with a 1:32.98 with Guy Brooks right on his hip with a six place time of 1:33.01 in the A-final. Denis Loktev won the B-final with a time of 1:33.53 and Gustavo Saldo was eighth in that same heat. Ilia Sibirtsev was seventh in the C-final with a score of 1:36.60. Notre Dame's Chris Guiliano won gold with a time of 1:31.16.

Tomorrow's racing gets underway at 9:30 with the 200 fly, the 100 backstroke, the 100 breaststroke and women's platform diving. In the evening the 400 medley relay will be contested as well.
