No. 4 Cardinals Defeat Boston College to Cap Road Swing

The Cards served a season-high 10 aces while hitting .371 on the match.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -Â The 4th-ranked University of Louisville volleyball team served a season-high 10 aces on a .371 hitting percentage in their sweep of Boston College on Sunday afternoon, winning the sets 25-21, 25-18, and 25-8.Â

This is the Cardinals' fifth straight win and 10th Atlantic Coast Conference sweep of the season. UofL is now 21-3 overall and 13-1 in ACC play.

Outside hitter Charitie Luper served a career-high three aces while adding nine kills and three blocks to hit a .316 clip on the match. Middle blocker Reese Robins added seven kills and three blocks of her own with middle blockers Hannah Sherman and Cara Cresse adding five and two blocks, respectively. Libero Elena Scott served three aces and defensive specialist Kamden Schrand added two aces of her own.

Audrey Ross led the Eagles' offense with 11 kills while Julia Haggerty knocked down five blocks to add to her NCAA lead.

Set 1: Louisville 25, Boston College 21
Boston College pulled out to an early 6-2 lead, with the two Louisville points coming on a kill by Luper and a service error from BC. Points continued to go back and forth with Sofia Maldonado Diaz, Anna DeBeer, and Luper all knocking down kills. Louisville got their first lead of the set on a block from Hannah Sherman and Maldonado Diaz to go up 13-11. The teams traded points, tying the score at 13, 14 and 15, until the Cards eventually kept the lead for the remainder of the set. DeBeer and Robins posted big kills for Louisville and service errors from the Eagles kept Louisville on top. Sherman added a solo block and connected with Maldonado Diaz to give UofL a 23-20 lead. The first set point came for the Cards after a kill from DeBeer put Louisville up 24-20. A block error staved off the set win for one point, until Maldonado Diaz knocked down a kill to win the set 25-21.Â

Set 2: Louisville 25, Boston College 18
The Cards got out to a quick 6-1 lead on kills from DeBeer, Luper, and Sherman to go along with an ace from DeBeer and a block connection from Sherman and Robins. Louisville continued to extend the lead, eventually getting their biggest lead of the set at 16-8 after more kills from DeBeer, Luper, and Robins, blocks from the duos of Sherman/Luper and Robins/Cara Cresse, and an ace from Scott. Sherman added another kill for the Cards before the Eagles went on a 6-0 scoring run to bring the score within two at 17-15. The run ended on a kill by Luper before BC added another point to make it 18-16. Louisville stayed in control, going up 23-18 on kills from Maldonado Diaz and Cresse, with Schrand adding an ace. Set point came after a kill from Robins put the Cards up 24-18 and Luper added another kill to seal the set win 25-18.

Set 3: Louisville 25, Boston College 8
Louisville recorded seven aces and recorded a .471 hitting percentage in their dominant third set win over BC. The set started out tight as points were traded until the Cards went up 4-2 on kills from Luper and Cresse and errors from the Eagles. Luper went on to serve three consecutive aces while Maldonado Diaz added a kill to bring the Louisville lead 9-3. Schrand and Maldonado Diaz both added aces of their own and Nayelis Cabello knocked down a kill during a 5-0 run for the Cards to put them up 16-5. The run ended on a block error by UofL, but Robins immediately added another kill and connected with Cresse for another block. Robins tallied two more kills and Luper added her ninth kill of the match to put Louisville up 22-8. Scott served two aces to get UofL to match point, which came at 25-8 on a block from Luper and Sherman.Â
