Louisville records fifth straight sweep; DeBeer hits 1,000 digs
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Outside hitter Anna DeBeer recorded her 1,000th dig to become the fourth Cardinal in program history with both 1,000 digs and 1,000 kills in No. 3 Louisville's sweep of Duke Friday night at L&N Federal Credit Union Arena.
The Cards won 25-13, 25-16, 25-10 for their 11th sweep overall and fifth straight conference sweep.Â

Louisville hit for .432 with six aces and nine blocks. The Cards were led by Anna DeBeer in kills with 13, with Charitie Luper putting up eight of her own. Nayelis Cabello led the Cardinals with 17 assists and Elle Glock recorded 14. Kamden Schrand recorded two aces. Hannah Sherman and Cara Cresse both put up five blocks and both hit over .400.Â

Duke was held to only hitting .022 with no aces and three blocks on the night, and was led by junior Kerry Keefe in kills with 10. The Blue Devils fall to 9-17 and 5-10 in ACC play.Â

Louisville (22-3) will play North Carolina (18-5) next, on Sunday, November 17th, at 1pm EST at the L&N Arena. Senior day festivities will take place after the match on Sunday.Â

Set 1: Louisville 25, Duke 13
Louisville grabbed the first two points on a service error from Duke and a kill from Hannah Sherman. The Blue Devils answered with two points of their own to tie it at two all. Points went back and forth with Sofia Maldonado Diaz, Charitie Luper, and Anna DeBeer all collecting kills to pull the Cards out to a 9-7 lead. Scoring remained tight with UofL eventually going up 12-9 and on a 3-0 run following a block from Sherman and Reese Robins. The run ended quickly on a service error from Louisville, but the Cards answered quickly. Sherman, DeBeer, and Maldonado Diaz all recorded kills and went on a 4-0 run to pull out to an 18-11 lead. An attack error from UofL ended the run and the Blue Devils scored another point. Louisville finished the set on a 7-0 run with kills from DeBeer, two aces from Kamden Schrand, and errors from Duke to win the set 25-13.

Set 2: Louisville 25, Duke 16
Louisville got off to a hot start in set 2, grabbing a 9-2 lead and forcing Duke to take their first timeout. This was helped by two kills from Robins and Cresse. Out of the timeout, DeBeer recorded her 1,000th dig as a Louisville Cardinal, becoming just the fourth player in Louisville Volleyball history to achieve that feat. Duke slowly climbed back on a 3-0 run, until Maldonado Diaz recorded her second kill of the set, which kick-started a 3-0 run for the Cardinals, with DeBeer putting up back-to-back kills. This forced the Blue Devils to take their second timeout of the set down 15-9. Out of Duke's timeout, UofL continued their run up to seven straight, making the score 19-9. Combating a late run by the Blue Devils, the Cardinals closed out the second set by Maldonado Diaz recording her third kill of the set, winning 25-16. Louisville hit for .375, recording 17 kills as a team, with Luper leading the way with four. Duke was held to just .031 hitting,with junior Kerry Keefe leading the Blue Devils with four. The Cards followed up by going on a 4-0 run that was highlighted by kills from Luper and Maldonado Diaz and a solo block from Sherman to go up 7-3. The Blue Devils ended the run on a kill, but UofL continued on, going up 21-8 and on a 9-0 run off of kills from Sherman, DeBeer, and Cresse, an ace from Luper, a block from Sherman and Petersen, and errors from Duke. The run ended on a kill from the Blue Devils, but Louisville remained in control of the match. Alanna Bankston recorded an ace and another solo block from Sherman put the Cards at match point, 24-9. Duke tallied one more kill, but Petersen's second kill secured the set and match win 25-10.
