Cardinals Draw with Boston College, 0-0
October 24, 2024 | Women's Soccer
It is Louisville’s six shutout of the season
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Louisville women's soccer team had another strong defensive effort in its 0-0 draw against Boston College Thursday night at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium. The Cardinals held a 26-7 edge in shots and had numerous chances off corners in the final minutes but were unable to break the draw.
Erynn Floyd had been playing some of her best soccer over the past few weeks and did not have to face much action tonight. Of the seven shots by Boston College only one of them reached frame and not until the 81st minute of the match. Floyd was there to make the save and she was a part of her fifth shutout of the season.
In the first half, the Cardinals held a 12-2 advantage in shots and had a great opportunity in the 15th minute.
Coming off her brace in the win over No. 25 Cal, Mackenzie Geigle looked to put the Cardinals up early. She made a run straight down the field and did not face much pressure from the Eagles defense. Geigle ripped a shot from just outside the box and the Eagles keeper had to push the shot over the bar and out of play.
In the second half, the Cardinals continued to up the pressure offensively and had a number of chances of finding the opening goal of the match.
Heading into the final few minutes, the score was level at 0-0 but the Cards had a string of corner kick opportunities.
In the 88th minute, one of the corner kicks came out to Betsy Huckaby, who was positioned just outside the box. She fired a low shot towards goal and it was saved and deflected away by the Boston College defense.
The Cardinals recovered the ball after the Eagles save and it was sent back into the box. Geigle headed the ball back towards the center of the box where Brooklyn Lee fired a shot on goal. The ball was saved off the line by an Eagles defender and led to another corner kick for the Cards.
On the ensuing corner, it was Geigle again with the header from the end line to put it back into the box. This time it was AG Gibson who had a header on goal that was saved by the Eagles keeper then deflected off the crossbar and went back out into play. That was the last real chance the Cardinals got as the game ended in a 0-0 draw.
The Cards will be back in action next week for the regular season finale. Louisville will travel to Clemson to take on the Tigers on Thursday, October 31. The Cards and Tigers will square off at 7 p.m. ET and it will be streamed on the ACC Network Extra.
