
No. 13/9 Cardinals Set to Host Xavier in Home Opener

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville swimming and diving team will host Xavier for the season opener at 3 p.m. on Friday at the Ralph Wright Natatorium. Diving will begin at 2:25.

The Cardinals faced Xavier to open the 2023-24 season, with both teams winning. The UofL men prevailed 193-66 while the women won 189-69.

About the Cardinals
Louisville enters the season in both College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) preseason polls. The men's swimming and diving team check in at No. 13 and the women's swimming and diving team was voted to No. 9.

In 2023-24, the Louisville women's swimming and diving team placed sixth at the NCAA Championships and second at the ACC Championships. The Cardinals finished the season at No. 10 in the CSCAA polls. Gabi Albiero earned four first team All-American Honors and was a two-time honorable mention All-America. During the ACC Championships, Albiero earned three silvers and two bronze medals for the Cards. Paige Kuwata led the way for Louisville against Xavier last season, winning the 1000 free (10:11.49) and the 500 free (4:59.33).

On the men's side, the team finished the 2023-24 season 15th at the NCAA Championships and fourth at the ACC Championships. The Cards checked in at No. 14 in the final CSCAA polls. Guy Brooks earned All-American Honors for Louisville at the NCAA Championships in addition to winning a gold medal as part of the 800 free relay (6:09.87) team at the ACC Championships. Dalton Lowe took some top honors against Xavier last season, winning the 100 meter butterfly (48.29), 100 meter backstroke (48.96), 200 medley relay, and the 400 free relay.

The Musketeers are coming off 13 combined wins at the Butler Double Dual meet last week to open their season. Xavier went 6-1 in head-to-head matchups, with the women winning 4-0 and the men finishing second at 2-1.

Xavier women are coming off of a fourth place finish at the 2023-24 BIG EAST championships, returning six of the nine Musketeers that earned All-BIG EAST honors last season, led by Olivia Oyster. The Xavier men finished runner-up at the BIG EAST Championships and will return eight of their 10 All-BIG EAST Musketeers, led by Ethan Saunders.
