LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville men's soccer heads on the road for a Friday night contest at Virginia. Kickoff from Charlottesville is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET and will be televised on ACC Network Extra.
ABOUT THE CARDINALS
Louisville scored four first-half goals on its way to a 5-2 victory over NC State on Sunday night at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium. Damien Barker John netted a pair of goals in the opening half, while Josh Jones and Sander Roed also got in the scoring column.
The Cardinals currently rank 10th nationally, scoring 2.50 goals per match. Louisville is top two in the ACC in goals per match, goal differential, shots on goal per match and save percentage.
SERIES HISTORY
Louisville leads the all-time series 4-3-1 over Virginia, but is 1-3-0 in four trips to Charlottesville. The two sides did not play either of the last two seasons, with Louisville winning the most-recent matchup 2-1 in April of 2021.
BARKER JOHN NAMED ACC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF WEEK
Damien Barker John was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week following Louisville's wins over Evansville and NC State.
The sophomore tallied three goals last week in the two victories, converting a penalty kick in the closing seconds at Evansville and finding the back of the net twice in the first half against NC State.
Barker John is the fourth Louisville player to earn a weekly ACC honor this season.
CARDINALS ON THE ATTACK EARLY
John Michael Hayden's team has one of the better offensive attacks in the country once again, ranking in the top 10 in scoring offense.
The Cardinals have been especially good early in matches, having scored first in all eight matches this season. Louisville has gotten on the board in the first 10 minutes of three matches (UNC Greensboro, Kentucky, Virginia Tech) and the first 15 minutes of three others (Bellarmine, Syracuse, NC State).
ROED CLIMBING CAREER ASSISTS CHART
Louisville midfielder Sander Roed had one of the top assist seasons in program history in 2022, tying for the seventh-most in program history with eight.
Roed is already halfway to his total from last season, having notched his fourth of the year and 17th career assist against NC State, moving him into a tie for seventh all-time at Louisville.
Tim Kubel (2014-17) owns the program's career record with 26.
