Cardinals Hit the Road to Face Xavier
August 19, 2023 | Women's Soccer
This will be the first of two-straight road games in Ohio for the Cards
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The University of Louisville women's soccer team is hitting the road for the first time during the 2023 season this weekend. The Cards are taking the short drive up I-71 to take on Xavier on Sunday evening. Sunday's matchup will begin at 7:30 p.m. ET and it will be streamed on FloFC and a subscription is required to view the match.
This is the second-straight season the Cardinals will face Xavier as they played in the second game of the season last season at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium. Xavier came away with the 2-1 victory as Maisie Whitsett was the goal scorer for the Cards and Erynn Floyd started in net and made four saves over the 90 minutes. The Musketeers own the all-time series between the two schools 14-3 but the Cardinals have won three of the last five matchups.
The Cardinals are 0-0-1 this season after a 0-0 draw against Indiana State in the season opener this past Thursday. The Cardinals had a 23-0 shot advantage over the Sycamores but could not break through on goal.
It was the first time the Cardinals have not allowed a single shot in a game since August 25, 2019 against Morehead State. Sophomore Erynn Floyd started in goal and she recorded her seventh career clean sheet. Senior Sabrina Zamborini led the Cardinals with a career best five shots and four shots on goal.
A number of newcomers saw their first action in a Cardinal uniform against the Sycamores. Freshmen Viktoria Wik and Fiona Gaißer were in the Starting XI in their first collegiate matches and Lucy Roberts also earned a start in her first game with the Cardinals. Fellow freshmen Betsy Huckaby and Molly Cochran played in their first collegiate game coming off the bench against Indiana State. Sophomore Emma Kate Schroll also played in her first career game this past Thursday.
