LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Berta Miret of Barcelona, Spain has signed with the University of Louisville women's tennis team according to Cardinal head coach Mark Beckham.
Â
Miret comes to the Ville after ranking as high as No. 46 for women in her native country of Spain. She was ranked as high as No. 6 in junior girls. She won the Spanish Team Championships in all ages for Juniors as well as winning the Catalan Championship as a highlight in her multiple wins in the National Tournament.
Â
"We would like to welcome Berta Miret to Louisville Women's Tennis," said Beckham. "Berta comes to us as a highly regarded player from Spain. Berta fits all of the things that Coach Kevin Fulton and I like in a prospective player. First and foremost, she loves the game of tennis. If you are going to compete and be successful at the level at which we play, you must have a love of the game that really pushes you to be as good as you can be, and Berta definitely has that. Secondly, she is a very good player. She has been ranked as high as 6th among juniors and top 50 for women in Spain. You don't get a ranking that high in Spain without being a high-level player. With that experience, we think she can make a smooth transition to this level and be a big help to the success of Louisville Tennis."
