Mires comes to Louisville after spending last season at Florida State.
Baylee Mires has been named an assistant coach for the University of Louisville track and field and cross country programs, as announced by director of track and field/cross country Joe Franklin.
Â
"Baylee brings crucial experience and an essential skill set to Louisville," said Franklin. "Her ability to navigate the professional space of track and field combined with the success she has had as a coach will be vital to the development of our students at all levels."
Â
Over the course of the previous two years coaching in the ACC with Florida State and Notre Dame, Mires has coached her athletes to 20 NCAA qualifications, 12 NCAA Preliminaries bids, 10 All-ACC honors, and seen two teams advance to the NCAA Cross Country Championships.
Â
"I am so excited to be a part of the University of Louisville's cross country and track and field staff, where I'll have the privilege of collaborating with some of the nation's top coaches," said Mires. "I am eagerly looking forward to building this program into one of the best in the country."
Â
Mires spent the 2022-23 as an assistant coach overseeing the women's distance program, immediately leading the women's cross country team to an appearance at the 2022 NCAA Cross Country Championships, where they placed 18th in the nation after taking second at the NCAA South Region Championships and fifth at the ACC Championships.
Â
The track season saw Mires guide Alyson Churchill to an NCAA berth in the outdoor 5000m where she placed 11th to earn second team All-America distinction. Churchill was also named second team All-ACC after taking fourth place in the 1500m at the ACC Outdoor Championships while also placing seventh in the 5000m.
Â
During the 2021-22 season, Mires got her collegiate coaching career started at Notre Dame where she functioned as the assistant women's distance coach. Her brief stay in South Bend yielded nine NCAA All-Americans, 10 NCAA First Round entries, seven All-ACC honorees, and a fifth-place finish for the women's cross country team at the 2021 NCAA Cross Country Championships.
Â
She also holds experience in coaching at the high school level, serving as an assistant cross country and track coach for Bishop Blanchet High School and Interlake High School in the Greater Seattle area.
Â
Mires ran professionally for the Brooks Beast Track Club and Under Armour after an illustrious collegiate career at the University of Washington from 2012-16. While a member of the Huskies program, she earned first team All-American honors in the 800m as a senior and in the DMR as both a junior and senior while also being named second team All-America in the 800m as a junior. She was also a member of the 2012 national championship DMR team as a freshman as the first group of UW women to win an indoor championship.
Â
Hailing from Spokane, Washington, Mires graduated from Washington in 2016 with a bachelor's degree in early childhood development and family studies with a minor in nutrition.
