CHICAGO, Ill. – Elsingi Kipruto picked up the first win of his collegiate career in the men's 8K as the University of Louisville cross country teams wrapped up competition at the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational on Friday morning.
In just his second meet with the Cardinals, the freshman from Mosoriot, Kenya battled through humid conditions to break the tape in 23:14.5, leading the Louisville men to a fourth-place finish in the team standings with 129 points.
With the fourth-place team finish, the men's squad defeated two ranked teams (No. 16 North Carolina and No. 24 Washington) and improved seven places from last season's iteration of the same meet where they placed 11th.
The Cardinal men got a massive boost in the form of Ian Kibiwot and Geoffrey Kirwa, who both made their season debut on the lakefront. Kibiwot placed seventh in 23:32.2 and Kirwa followed close behind in eighth with a time of 23:34.5, giving the Louisville men three of the top 10 individual finishers.

On the women's side, the Cardinals finished sixth in the team standings with 189 points, outperforming a trio of ranked teams: No. 7 Providence, No. 21 Wisconsin, and No. 29 Minnesota.
Emma McGill led the charge for the Louisville women for the second consecutive meet, covering the 6K course in 20:16.7 to finish 22nd individually.
