
Cardinals Return to Action for Split Weekend

The teams will be represented at the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational on Friday, Oct. 3 and the Swags Louisville Cross Country Classic on Saturday, Oct. 4.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville cross country teams will resume competition this weekend after a three-week layoff, splitting between the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational and the Swags Louisville Cross Country Classic.

SEAN EARL LAKEFRONT INVITATIONAL

The majority of the team will head up to Chicago, Ill. for the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational on Friday, Oct. 3, which will be contested at the Sydney R. Marovitz Golf Course along the shores of Lake Michigan.
The Cardinals will field 10 men and nine women on the lakefront, with the women's 6K scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. ET and the men's 8K to follow at 10:40 a.m. ET.
The field in Chicago will feature eight ranked teams on the women's side, including No. 2 NC State and No. 7 Providence, while three ranked men's teams will compete, led by No. 7 Wisconsin.

The Swags Louisville Cross Country Classic, hosted by the Louisville Sports Commission at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer Park, will take place on Saturday, Oct. 4.
Three men and six women are slated to compete for the Cardinals with the men's 8K set for 9:00 a.m. ET and the women's 5K scheduled for 9:45 a.m. ET. Admission for spectators is $10 per person.
LAST TIME OUT
The Cards return to competition three weeks after making their season debut at the Southern Showcase on Sept. 12, where the women's team claimed the team title and the men's squad placed fourth.
The women's team tallied a total of 64 points to capture their first team victory at an invitational since the 2020 season. The Louisville women accounted for six of the top 25 individual finishers in the women's 5K, led by a sixth-place showing from Emma McGill and a ninth-place finish from Olivia Alessandrini.
On the men's side, the Cards were led by Elsingi Kipruto's fourth-place finish in the men's 8K that resulted in the rookie being named the ACC Men's Freshman of the Week on Sept. 16. The Louisville men will look to build off their solid start to the season with Ian Kibiwot and Geoffrey Kirwa set to make their season debuts in Chicago on Friday morning.
