Franklin Officially Introduced as Director of Track & Field and Cross Country

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville track & field and cross country programs officially began a new era when Joe Franklin was formally introduced in a press conference on Tuesday.
"I'm super excited about this next phase," said Franklin. "When this position became an opportunity, I was very excited about the potential that's at Louisville with being in the ACC and being in a great part of the country for track and field with the populous that's within a five-hour radius. The potential's unlimited, and we've been lucky enough over the last two stops to be extremely successful and that's the goal here: to be successful in all aspects."
"We want to make sure that we have students that are, first and foremost, great students. Secondly, we want to have students that want to contend for ACC and NCAA titles, as well as Olympic finals. We've been lucky enough to do that in the past, and that's something we're striving for here as well."
Franklin joins the Cardinals after 16 years at New Mexico where he notably guided the Lobos to a pair of NCAA national team titles in women's cross country in 2015 and 2017. His teams won 27 Mountain West team championships during his time in Albuquerque while also tallying 31 top-25 team finishes nationally across the cross country, indoor, and outdoor track and field programs.
Franklin also coached his athletes to ten individual NCAA championships, two in cross country and eight in track and field, while producing 72 USTFCCCA All-Americans who combined for a total of 173 All-America honors – 132 of which came in track and field and 41 in cross country.
