
Incoming Freshman Brooke Gray Tabbed Gatorade Kentucky Softball Player of the Year

Gray is now a finalist for the Gatorade National Softball Player of the Year
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – University of Louisville incoming freshman Brooke Gray was named the 2022-23 Gatorade Kentucky Softball Player of the Year as announced Friday. She is now a finalist for the prestigious Gatorade National Softball Player of the Year award be announced in June.

Gray, a Louisville native, currently plays for Ballard High School and has helped lead the Bruins to 34-1 record as they enter the upcoming state semifinals. The left-handed pitcher has dominated in the circle, carrying a 27-0 record and 0.68 ERA while surrendering only 85 hits and delivering 287 strikeouts in 175.2 innings.

The 2022 state tournament MVP and all-state first team honoree has tallied 58 straight wins in the circle over the past two seasons.

In addition to her achievements on the field, Gray has maintained a B average and is a member of the Ballard High School chapter of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Â

About the Gatorade Player of the Year Award
The Gatorade Player of the Year award was established in 1985 to recognize the nation's most elite high school student-athletes for their athletic excellence, academic achievement and exemplary character. The award winners are evaluated and selected on the basis of three criteria:
• Athletic Excellence - Standout performance in their respective sport made at the high school, club, national or international levels of competition.
• Academic Achievement - Review of GPA and class rank, as well as SAT and ACT scores, and academic honors distinctions.
• Exemplary Character - Commitment to sportsmanship, character and community through membership and participation in positive activities.
