
Louisville Closes Regular Season with 2-1 Loss at No. 3 Florida State

Cards wrap up the regular season with a 35-17 overall record and 16-7 mark in ACC play
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – The University of Louisville softball team wrapped up the regular season with a 2-1 loss at third-ranked Florida State Sunday afternoon at JoAnne Graf Stadium.

The Cardinals (35-17, 16-7 ACC) will return to action next week when they open play in Atlantic Coast Conference Championship which will be held May 10-13 at Notre Dame's Melissa Cook Stadium.

The teams played through two scoreless innings before the Seminoles (47-8, 22-2 ACC) broke through in the third with a leadoff home run by Josie Muffley. Florida State took a 2-0 lead behind a sacrifice fly by Devyn Flaherty in the fifth.

The Cards got on the scoreboard in the top of the seventh when Daisy Hess led off with a triple and came home on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Hannah File to cut the lead in half.

Louisville had chances to score early in the game when Lotus singled and Sarah Gordon walked to put two on in the first inning and again in third after a hit by Korbe Otis and a Florida State error put runners on the corners, but the Cards were unable to capitalize on the opportunities.Â
Alyssa Zabala (14-8) took the loss, surrendering two runs, one earned, while scattering four hits and striking out two in six innings. Korbe Otis, Easton Lotus and Hess each had a hit for the Cards.

Kathryn Sandercock (21-3) picked up the win, allowing one earned run on one hit with two strikeouts in 4.1 innings. Mack Leonard went 2-for-3 with a run to lead the Seminoles at the plate.
