Cardinals Lose Second Straight at Clemson

Louisville lost 4-3 in the second game of the weekend.
CLEMSON, S.C. – The No. 22-ranked University of Louisville baseball team came up a run short on Saturday, losing 4-3 at No. 18 Clemson.
Louisville (29-17, 9-14 ACC) lost by one run for the eighth time in ACC play.
The Cardinals were quiet at the plate through six innings on Saturday. Meanwhile, Carson Liggett and Riley Phillips limited Clemson to just one run during that span with a run scoring on a wild pitch in the fourth.
Ryan McCoy changed that with one swing. The junior hit his team-leading 12th home run of the season into the left field seats leading off the seventh inning to tie the game up at one.
However, Clemson (30-17, 13-10) responded with three runs in the bottom half of the seventh to jump back in front.
Trailing by three, Louisville loaded the bases with one out in the eighth, getting two walks and a single. JT Benson then worked a walk to force home Logan Beard and McCoy hit a groundball on the right side the plated Isaac Humphrey.
The Cardinals were unable to get the tying run home in the eighth though and had a leadoff runner erased on the basepaths in the ninth to seal the loss.
Liggett allowed one run over four innings in the start for the Cardinals. Phillips (4-2) worked two scoreless innings before having two inherited runners score in the seventh.
Louisville and Clemson wrap up the series on Sunday at noon ET.
