Cards Head to Virginia for ACC Series

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The University of Louisville softball will hit the road for a three-game Atlantic Coast Conference series at Virginia starting Friday.

NOTES:
• UofL brings a 29-14 overall record into the week after a 3-2 win at Western Kentucky in the final non-conference game of the season.
• In 42 games, the Cardinals have produced 10 shutouts and 10 wins via the eight-run rule.
• Louisville is batting .319 as a team with five players hitting above .300.
• Entering the week, Otis leads the ACC and tied for third in the nation with seven triples. She also paces the team with a .415 batting average, 56 hits, 25 walks and 51 runs.
• Korby Otis recently snapped a school-record on-base streak of 35 games in the 3-2 win at WKU. Overall, Otis has reached base via a hit or walk in all but two of Louisville's 42 games.
• Otis leads the ACC in runs scored – stands tied for fifth on Louisville's single season list with 51.
• Taylor Roby is second in the ACC and stands tied for fourth in the NCAA with 17 home runs and owns the school's career mark with 57.
• With 17 home runs on the season, Roby currently stands tied for first Louisville's single season list with Courtney Moore (2005).
• Alyssa Zabala leads the team with 12 wins and 73 strikeouts in 89.1 innings while Roby carries a team-best 2.30 ERA with 53 Ks in 91.1 innings of work.

THE HOLLY APRILE ERA
Head coach Holly Aprile is in her fifth season as UofL's head coach. During her time at the helm – which includes the COVID-19 impacted 2020 season, Aprile guided the Cardinals to 121 wins and an NCAA regional final appearance in 2019.
• Prior to her arrival at Louisville, Aprile, the 2018 ACC Coach of the Year spent 10 seasons (2009-18) as Pittsburgh's head coach and five years (2004-08) as an assistant. In 2018, she earned ACC Coach of the Year honors after leading the Panthers to the 2018 ACC Coastal Division title and a runner-up finish in the ACC tournament.

CARDS AGAINST THE OPPONENTS
VIRGINIA
Series Record: Louisville leads 17-4
Last Meeting: April 29-May 1 - Louisville took two out of three games to win an ACC series at Ulmer Stadium. The Cards won series opener 5-4 with the Cavaliers taking game two 5-3. Louisville won the rubber-game 9-4.
Scouting the Cavaliers: Virginia enters the weekend with a 29-15 overall record and an 8-10 mark in ACC play to place sixth in the league standings. UVA is coming off of a 10-2 win over JMU on Tuesday.
• Last weekend, the Hoos went 1-2 at then-No. 4 Florida State. UVA fell 6-1 in the opener, but bounced back to take a 6-5 win to even the series before FSU registered an 8-0 win in the finale.
• Jade Hylton leads the team with a .324 batting average, 10 home runs and 24 RBIs.
• Current ACC Pitcher of the Week Eden Bigham (13-4) has carried the bulk of the pitching duties with a 1.82 ERA and 108 strikeouts in 104.0 innings.

UP NEXT
The Cardinals will return to Ulmer Stadium for their final ACC series of the regular season, a three-game set against Boston College April 28-30. Louisville will also honor graduating seniors:Taja Felder, Hannah File, Makayla Hurst, Elana Ornelas and Taylor Roby in their final home weekend.
