Cards win their final non-conference game of the season
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The University of Louisville softball team defeated Western Kentucky 3-2 Wednesday evening at WKU Softball Complex.

Paige Geraghty went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Sarah Gordon registered a home run and tallied a pair of RBIs as the Cards built a 3-0 lead and held on for the 3-2 victory.

Taylor Roby (9-5) earned the win, surrendering two earned runs on four hits with one strikeout in 4.1 innings. Alyssa Zabala picked up her second save of the season, holding the Hilltoppers scoreless on three hits with one strikeout in 2.2 innings of relief.

The teams played through three scoreless innings before the Sarah Gordon led off the fourth with her seventh home run of the season to put the Cards on the board. Paige Geraghty connected on a two-out double to plate Madison "Pickle" Winkler, giving Louisville a 2-0 lead.

Louisville added another run in the fifth when Hannah File doubled, moved to third on a hit by Taylor Roby and scored on Gordon's groundout.

The Hilltoppers (23-18) countered in the home half of the fifth when Faith Hege's two-run single pulled her team within one run.

Western Kentucky threatened to score in the seventh when Hegh started the home half of the inning with a hit and a sacrifice bunt by Taylor Davis place a runner in scoring position with one out, but Zabala and the Cardinals' defense retired the next two batters to end the game.

The Cardinals (29-14) will travel to Charlottesville, Va., for a three-game Atlantic Coast Conference series at Virginia starting Friday.
