
Cards Sweep NC State Doubleheader

Louisville has won six straight games and secured its second consecutive ACC series
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville softball team swept NC State 7-4 and 13-0 in an Atlantic Coast Conference doubleheader Saturday at Ulmer Stadium.

With the sweep, the Cardinals (21-9, 6-2 ACC) have now won six straight games and secured their second consecutive ACC series. On the day, Taylor Roby paced Louisville offensively with a 4-for-6 performance at the plate tallying a double, a home run and five RBIs and picked up her first save of the season. Hannah File went 3-for-6 with two home runs – one in each game - and three RBIs.

The teams will wrap up the series Sunday at 12:30 p.m.

Louisville 7 – NC State 4
Alyssa Zabala earned her 10th win and struck out six while Roby had two hits, including her team-best 11th homer of the season and drove in four of Louisville's runs in addition to earning her first save of the season to help the Cards open the series with a 7-4 win.

After NC State (11-19, 4-7) jumped to an early lead with an unearned run in the top of the first, the Cardinals answered behind Roby's three-run homer in the bottom of the inning. Korbe Otis and File delivered a pair of singles to set up Roby, who powered a shot over the fence in left centerfield

The Wolfpack used a home run by Amanda Hasler and a Louisville error to plate two runs and even the score in the third. But Louisville countered once again in the home half of the inning behind File's solo shot to take a 4-3 lead.

The Cards used five hits, including Ally Alexander's two-run single, to plate three insurance runs in the fifth.

NC State added another run courtesy of Hasler's RBI hit, bringing the final score to 7-4.

Madison Inscoe (7-6) took the loss, allowing seven earned runs on nine hits and striking out two in five innings. Hasler went 2-for-3 with two RBIs to lead the Wolfpack offensively.

Louisville 13- NC State (5 inn.)
Sam Booe and Cassie Grizzard combined for a one-hitter and Sarah Gordon went 2-for-4 with a home run and a career-high five RBIs to help the Cards clinch the series with a 13-0 win in the nightcap.

Booe had a no-hitter going until two outs in the fourth inning when MaKayla Marbury delivered a single into shallow centerfield. The sophomore RHP struck out eight and surrendered one walk in four innings to improve to 3-0 on the season.

The Cards got their offense started early when Otis led off the bottom of the first with her fourth triple of the year and Gordon followed with an RBI single. After a walk to Hannah File and a wild pitch sent Gordon to third, she crossed the plate on Daisy Hess' sacrifice bunt to put Louisville up 2-0.
The second inning brought three more runs highlighted by File's fifth homer of the season.
Gordon's three-run home run in the fifth brought the score to 8-0.

Louisville's offense would continue in the fourth when Louisville used four hits and an error to plate five more runs for the 13-0 final. Â

Aisha Weixlmann (3-6) took the loss, allowing five earned runs on four hits and striking out two in 1.1 innings.
